Secretary Message

Dear Members,

I am pleased to post the Secretary’s first message in our very own website. Using our new website, we will post our latest events online from now albeit not in the usual hardcopy Newsletter format that you are used to. This is something new that your council try to achieve and I hope members welcome this innovation. Members are encouraged to provide feedback on our newsletter using the web email provided. Many thanks are due  to Mr. Seet Chin Peng, Dr. Ng Tham Fatt and Dr. Saim Suratman for providing much technical assistance in the development of the website and to other council members for their contributions.

I sincerely hope members will take the time to access the website to update yourselves on the happenings in your institute, to read any useful articles relevant to your profession or to pose any of your professional querries online. I urge members to send information regarding any forthcoming events and conferences of relevance to the geological community, news of major publications and available training and fellowships.

I am sure with our large membership, there will be members who can help out with your problems and provide you with a solution. This is a service to members - to upgrade our professionalism - this is what our institute is all about. Wherever appropriate, we will provide useful downloads to assist you in your work; in this respect, contributions from members are most welcomed. For a start, we are providing a membership form to renew your subscription.

I would like to take this opportunity to call on members to activate your membership especially for those who had allowed it to lapse for some time. Please do so immediately as the council will be updating the membership list very soon and delisting those who have not paid. This is necessary as we need to get our house in order before the implementation of the Geologists Act. Active members will be entitled for automatic registration under the Act and benefit from the training courses which is part of the tasks of the institute on behalf of the yet-to-be-formed Board of Geologists.

Please constantly update us on your whereabouts and your email address especially when you haved moved or changed jobs. We realized that you are busy and there will be situations when we need to conatct you to provide you with reminders. If you bump into any fellow geologists who have been out of touch with the Institute, please spread the word, or give us their contacts so that we can remind them.

Finally, if you have any suggestions what you would like to see in your website, whether they may be articles or features or ways to improve it, please contact your representative or email us. We will try to continuously improve our services to members.

Have a great & successful year ahead!

Thank you.

Azimah Ali
Secretary, IGM
