Visit to Tunnel Centre
The Prime Minister of Malaysia recently pressed the button to launch the first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) at Bandar Malaysia signifying the beginning of one the many “moles” that will be digging through the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s underground for the next three years.
IGM is organising a visit to the MRT Info Centre to get a hands on understanding of the technology used in construction of the Sungai Buloh – Serdang – Putrajaya underground tunnels.
MMC – Gamuda the main tunnelling contractors uses the most variable density TBMs that is capable of tunnelling through one of the most challenging geology comprising of KL Limestone, Granite and Kenny Hill formation. Understand for yourselves how the tunnel engineers manoeuvre the TBMs skilfully through the very geology that many of us were tested throughout our career as a geologist.

IGM is organising a visit to MRT Info Centre to better understand the tunnel construction works being carried out around the Klang Valley.
The visit is open to IGM registered members and can accommodate 50 persons at one time. IGM is opening the visit to a maximum of 100 participants on a first come first serve basis. The visit will be divided into two sessions and each participant can only register for one session.
The dates for the sessions are:
- Tuesday 17 April 2018 9.30am – 11.00am
- Thursday 19 April 2018 9.30am – 11.00 am
Those members whose subscriptions are in arrears would be required to pay the due subscription before being allowed to join the visit.
Own transport to the MRT Info Centre.
